Nationaltrust

The National Trust owns and manages three-quarters of the peninsula (2,226 hectares or 5,500 acres of the land), including 26 miles of coastline. Thurba Head, near Mewslade Bay, was the first part of land on Gower to be gifted to the charity in 1933, but most of the land was acquired in the 1960’s. May 2006 marked the 50th anniversary since Gower peninsula was the first ever area in England and Wales to be designated “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty” (AONB).Key roles of the National Trust’s team of staff at Gower include conservation work, maintaining footpaths and recruiting volunteers to help out with practical tasks, which could be litter picking to fencing, ditch clearance, access work, monitoring and surveying. www: nationaltrust.org.uk
